The MOJO Weird Record Club #7:
Mother Earth’s Plantasia (Homewood, 1976)
Who?: Meet Mort Garson. A multi-talented writer, producer, pianist and all-round musical ideas man, he cut teeth at the Julliard, then spent the early ’60s growing into his big musical boots with production jobs for Mel Tormé, Doris Day and Glen Campbell. He also co-wrote the perennial hit Our Day Will Come.
MOJO says: “Plantasia offers the keen indoor and outdoor gardener help and success through cunningly composed earth music. Mort’s warm Moogy sounds are designed to benefit both the plant and the plant owner. Put the album on, sit back, read the free booklet (about plants) and allow the simple sonic osmosis to take place.”
Where can I get it?: Vinyl copies occasionally appear via online retailers.

Happy Friday everyone.
What have The Rolling Stones, Can, This Mortal Coil, Todd Rundgren, MOJO’s review of 2011, Roy Harper, PJ Harvey, Nile Rodgers, DJ Shadow, The Black Keys, Roy Wood and Johnny Marr all got in common? Well, they are all featured in the new issue of MOJO. Which looks like… this!
MOJO’s One Hit Wonders #5:
Artist/band: Violinski
Track: Clog Dance
Date: March 3, 1979
Chart position: 17
The lowdown: Despite what TOTP2 says in the clip above, this was an instrumental one hit wonder that was everywhere in the spring of 1979. But as a side-band for the Electric Light Orchestra’s violinist Mik Kaminski, Violinski had a built-in shelf life. Originally written by Mik’s friend John Marcangelo for a brass band, Clog Dance became a string-driven novelty hit that couldn’t be followed up.
Don’t forget - we look back at more one hit wonders every month in MOJO magazine.

The Ballad Of Mott The Hoople
This documentary was premiered at the London Film Festival last year and charts the rise of the Bowie-endorsed, super-booted glam rockers throughout their explosive early ’70s and their emotional return in 2009.
The Ballad Of Mott The Hoople is set for release on DVD on October 10.

Currently investigating the roots of punk here at MOJO. Found this incredible clip from 1972.
