Jobriath A.D. - Glam Rock’s Lost God
Known as the first openly gay rock star, Jobriath’s career was brief - lasting just two albums released in 1973 and ‘74 respectively. After a wave of publicity and hype, Jobriath’s world came crashing down as he was dismissed by critics and shunned by all those around him. After retreating to the Chelsea Hotel in New York he became an early casualty of AIDS and in 1983 died, aged 37.
Since his death acts such as The Pet Shop Boys, Gary Numan, Joe Elliott of Def Leppard, and Morrissey have all cited Jobriath as an influence.
